Valentina Sandu-Dediu is a Romanian composer, pianist, and musicologist who has made significant contributions to the world of classical music. She was born on December 22, 1967, in Bucharest, Romania, and grew up in a family of musicians. Her father, Ion Sandu, was a composer and conductor, and her mother, Elena Sandu, was a pianist and music teacher. Valentina began playing the piano at the age of five and showed exceptional talent from an early age. She studied at the George Enescu Music High School in Bucharest and later at the National University of Music in Bucharest, where she earned a degree in composition. She also studied musicology at the University of Paris-Sorbonne and earned a doctorate in musicology from the National University of Music in Bucharest. As a composer, Valentina has written numerous works for orchestra, chamber ensembles, and solo instruments. Her music is characterized by its lyrical and expressive qualities, as well as its use of traditional Romanian folk elements. She has also written on the music of other Romanian composers, including Dinu Lipatti and Anatol Vieru.
