From a young age, Derek showed a keen interest in music and began playing the piano at the age of four. He quickly showed a natural talent for the instrument and began taking lessons with his mother. As Derek grew older, he became more and more passionate about classical music. He began attending concerts and recitals, and soon started to dream of becoming a professional musician himself. He continued to study the piano, and also began to learn other instruments, including the violin and the cello. In 2003, Derek was accepted into the Royal Academy of Music in London, one of the most prestigious music schools in the world. There, he studied under some of the most renowned musicians of the day, including pianist Stephen Hough and cellist Steven Isserlis. He also had the opportunity to perform in a number of concerts and recitals, both as a soloist and as part of an ensemble. After graduating from the Royal Academy of Music in 2007, Derek began to establish himself as a professional musician. He performed in a number of concerts and recitals throughout the UK, and also began to receive invitations to perform in other countries. In 2009, he was invited to perform at the International Piano Festival in Moscow, where he received critical acclaim for his performance of Beethoven's Piano Sonata No. 23. Over the next few years, Derek continued to build his reputation as a pianist, performing in a number of high-profile concerts and recitals. In 2012, he was invited to perform at the Royal Albert Hall in London, one of the most prestigious concert venues in the world. There, he performed a program of works by Chopin, Liszt, and Beethoven to a sold-out audience. In addition to his work as a performer, Derek also began to establish himself as a composer. He had always been interested in composition, and had studied it extensively during his time at the Royal Academy of Music. In 2014, he released his first album of original compositions, entitled "Reflections." The album received critical acclaim, with many critics praising Derek's ability to blend classical and contemporary styles. In 2016, Derek was awarded the prestigious Royal Philharmonic Society Award for Young Artists, in recognition of his outstanding contributions to classical music. Today, Derek continues to perform and compose music, and is widely regarded as one of the most talented and innovative musicians of his generation.
