Role:ConductorPierre Dervaux was a French conductor and pianist who was born on July 3, 1917, in Paris, France. He was the son of a music teacher and grew up in a musical family. Dervaux began his musical studies at a young age and showed great promise as a pianist. He studied at the Paris Conservatory and won several prizes for his performances. Dervaux began his career as a pianist, but he soon turned to conducting. He made his debut as a conductor in 1948 with the Orchestre National de la Radiodiffusion Française. He quickly gained a reputation as a talented conductor and was appointed the principal conductor of the Orchestre National de la Radiodiffusion Française in 1954. Dervaux was known for his interpretations of French music, particularly the works of Maurice Ravel and Claude Debussy. He was also a champion of contemporary music and premiered works by many French composers, including Olivier Messiaen and Henri Dutilleux. Dervaux made many recordings throughout his career, including a highly acclaimed recording of Ravel's "Daphnis et Chloé" with the Orchestre National de la Radiodiffusion Française. He also recorded works by Debussy, Stravinsky, and other composers. Dervaux was a frequent guest conductor with orchestras around the world, including the London Symphony Orchestra, the Berlin Philharmonic, and the New York Philharmonic. He was also a regular conductor at the Glyndebourne Festival Opera in England. One of Dervaux's most notable performances was his conducting of the world premiere of Messiaen's "Turangalîla-Symphonie" in 1949. The work was a major event in the contemporary music world and Dervaux's performance was widely praised. Dervaux was also a respected teacher and served as a professor of conducting at the Paris Conservatory. Many of his students went on to have successful careers as conductors. Throughout his career, Dervaux received many awards and honors for his contributions to music. He was made a Chevalier of the Legion of Honor in 1961 and was promoted to Officier in 1977. He also received the Grand Prix du Disque for his recording of Ravel's "Daphnis et Chloé." Dervaux continued to conduct and perform until his death on January 20, 1992, in Paris, France.
