Ola Berg Riser is a Norwegian classical pianist who has gained international recognition for his virtuosic performances and musical interpretations. Born on May 22, 1987, in Oslo, Norway, Riser showed an early interest in music and began playing the piano at the age of six. He was encouraged by his parents, both of whom were amateur musicians, and received his first formal piano lessons from his mother. Riser's talent and dedication to music quickly became apparent, and he began to study with some of Norway's most renowned piano teachers. He attended the Barratt Due Institute of Music in Oslo, where he studied with Einar Steen-Nøkleberg and Håvard Gimse. He also studied with Leif Ove Andsnes, one of Norway's most celebrated pianists, and participated in masterclasses with other world-class pianists such as Murray Perahia and András Schiff. Riser's talent and hard work paid off when he won several prestigious awards and competitions. In 2005, he won first prize in the Norwegian National Piano Competition, and in 2007, he won the Yamaha Music Foundation of Europe Scholarship. He has appeared as a soloist with orchestras such as the Oslo Philharmonic Orchestra, the Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra, and the Trondheim Symphony Orchestra. He performed a program of works by Chopin, Schumann, and Liszt, which was met with critical acclaim. The New York Times praised Riser's "impeccable technique and musical sensitivity," and called him "a pianist to watch." Riser is also known for his recordings, which have received widespread critical acclaim. His debut album, released in 2011, featured works by Grieg, Liszt, and Rachmaninoff, and was praised for its "impressive technical skill and musical depth." His second album, released in 2015, featured works by Schumann and was described as "a masterful interpretation of some of the most challenging works in the piano repertoire." In addition to his career as a performer, Riser is also a dedicated teacher.
