She began singing at a young age and showed a natural talent for it, which her parents encouraged. Studholme received her formal music education at the Royal Academy of Music in London, where she studied under the renowned soprano Isobel Baillie. She made her professional debut in 1950, singing the role of Barbarina in Mozart's "The Marriage of Figaro" at the Glyndebourne Festival Opera. This performance marked the beginning of a long and successful career in the world of opera and classical music. Over the course of her career, Studholme performed in many of the world's most prestigious opera houses and concert halls. She was particularly renowned for her performances of Mozart's operas, which she sang with a clarity and purity of tone that was unmatched by many of her contemporaries. She also had a particular affinity for the music of Benjamin Britten, and was a frequent performer of his works. One of Studholme's most notable performances came in 1955, when she sang the role of Susanna in a production of "The Marriage of Figaro" at the Royal Opera House in London. This performance was widely praised by critics and helped to establish Studholme as one of the leading sopranos of her generation. She went on to perform in many other productions at the Royal Opera House, including "Don Giovanni," "The Magic Flute," and "Carmen." Studholme also had a successful career as a concert singer, performing in many of the world's most prestigious concert halls. She was particularly renowned for her performances of Handel's oratorios, which she sang with a clarity and precision that was unmatched by many of her contemporaries. She also had a particular affinity for the music of Bach, and was a frequent performer of his cantatas and other works. Throughout her career, Studholme received many awards and honors for her contributions to the world of classical music. In 1957, she was awarded the Royal Philharmonic Society's Gold Medal, one of the highest honors that can be bestowed upon a classical musician in the United Kingdom. She was also made a Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE) in 1975, in recognition of her services to music. Studholme retired from performing in the early 1980s, but remained active in the world of classical music as a teacher and mentor to young singers. She continued to be widely respected and admired by her peers and fans alike, and her legacy as one of the greatest sopranos of the mid-20th century lives on to this day.
