He was born on August 16, 1946, in the city of Tashkent, Uzbekistan. His father, Usto Shakhidi, was a famous musician and composer who played the dutar, a traditional Uzbek stringed instrument. Tolib-khon grew up in a musical family and was exposed to music from a young age. Tolib-khon began his musical education at the age of six when he started learning to play the piano. He later studied at the Tashkent State Conservatory, where he received a degree in composition. During his studies, he was mentored by prominent Uzbek composers such as Yunus Rajabiy and Turgun Alimatov. After completing his studies, Tolib-khon began his career as a composer and conductor. He worked with various orchestras and ensembles in Uzbekistan and other parts of the former Soviet Union. He also served as the artistic director of the Uzbekistan State Symphony Orchestra and the National Opera and Ballet Theatre. Tolib-khon's compositions were heavily influenced by Uzbek folk music and culture. He incorporated traditional Uzbek instruments such as the dutar, tanbur, and doira into his works, creating a unique blend of classical and folk music. His compositions were characterized by their rich harmonies, intricate rhythms, and melodic beauty. One of Tolib-khon's most famous works is his opera "Oydin," which premiered in 1984. Another notable work by Tolib-khon is his "Symphony No. 2," which was composed in 1980. The symphony is a tribute to the Uzbek people and their struggle for independence. Tolib-khon also composed numerous chamber works, including string quartets, piano trios, and sonatas. His chamber works were known for their intricate harmonies and delicate melodies, and they remain popular among classical music enthusiasts. In addition to his work as a composer, Tolib-khon was also a respected conductor. He conducted numerous orchestras and ensembles throughout his career, including the Uzbekistan State Symphony Orchestra, the Moscow Philharmonic Orchestra, and the London Symphony Orchestra.
