Period:ModernGenre:ChoralThomas Gregg was born on May 15, 1985, in New York City. He grew up in a family of musicians, with his mother being a pianist and his father a cellist. From a young age, Gregg showed a natural talent for music, and his parents encouraged him to pursue his passion. Gregg began his musical education at the age of five, when he started taking piano lessons with his mother. He quickly progressed and by the age of eight, he had already performed in his first public concert. At the age of ten, he started studying the cello with his father, and soon became proficient in both instruments. In 1997, Gregg was accepted into the Juilliard School's Pre-College Division, where he continued his musical education under the guidance of renowned teachers such as Yo-Yo Ma and Emanuel Ax. During his time at Juilliard, Gregg won numerous awards and competitions, including the Juilliard Pre-College Concerto Competition and the New York State Music Teachers Association Competition. After graduating from Juilliard, Gregg went on to study at the Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia, where he received a Bachelor of Music degree in cello performance. While at Curtis, he studied with renowned cellist David Soyer and performed in masterclasses with Yo-Yo Ma, Lynn Harrell, and Janos Starker. In 2007, Gregg was awarded a Fulbright Scholarship to study at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater in Munich, Germany. During his time in Germany, he studied with cellist Wen-Sinn Yang and performed extensively throughout Europe, including concerts in Germany, Austria, Switzerland, and Italy. Upon returning to the United States, Gregg continued to perform as a soloist and chamber musician, and was invited to perform at numerous prestigious venues, including Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, and the Kennedy Center. He also collaborated with many renowned musicians, including pianist Lang Lang, violinist Joshua Bell, and cellist Yo-Yo Ma. In addition to his performing career, Gregg is also a dedicated teacher and has taught at several institutions, including the Juilliard School, the Curtis Institute of Music, and the New England Conservatory of Music. He is known for his passionate and engaging teaching style, and has mentored many young musicians who have gone on to successful careers in music. Throughout his career, Gregg has received numerous awards and accolades for his musical achievements. In 2010, he was awarded the Avery Fisher Career Grant, which is given to outstanding young musicians who show exceptional talent and promise for the future. He was also a recipient of the prestigious Borletti-Buitoni Trust Fellowship in 2012, which provides financial support and career guidance to exceptional young musicians.
