Helmut's parents recognized his talent and encouraged him to pursue a career in music. He began taking piano lessons with his mother and later studied with several renowned pianists, including Friedrich Gulda and Martha Argerich. Helmut's talent and dedication to music were evident from an early age, and he quickly gained recognition as a prodigy. In 1965, at the age of 15, Helmut made his debut as a soloist with the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra. Over the next few years, Helmut continued to perform with orchestras and in solo recitals throughout Europe. He quickly gained a reputation as one of the most talented and exciting young pianists of his generation. In 1970, he won the prestigious International Tchaikovsky Competition in Moscow, which further cemented his status as a rising star in the classical music world. Helmut's repertoire was vast and included works by many of the great composers, including Beethoven, Mozart, Chopin, and Rachmaninoff.
