Tomas Nuñez-Garcés was born on May 12, 1985, in Santiago, Chile. He was born into a family of musicians, and his parents were both professional classical musicians. His father was a cellist, and his mother was a pianist. Tomas grew up surrounded by music, and he began playing the piano at a very young age. Tomas showed a natural talent for music, and he quickly became a prodigy. He began performing in public at the age of six, and he was soon recognized as one of the most promising young musicians in Chile. He won his first competition at the age of eight, and he went on to win many more competitions throughout his childhood. In 1998, when Tomas was thirteen years old, he was invited to perform at the International Piano Festival in Buenos Aires, Argentina. This was a major turning point in his career, as he was able to perform in front of an international audience for the first time. He received rave reviews for his performance, and he was invited to perform at many other festivals and concerts throughout South America. In 2001, Tomas was awarded a scholarship to study at the Juilliard School in New York City. This was a dream come true for Tomas, as he had always dreamed of studying at Juilliard. He moved to New York and began studying with some of the most renowned piano teachers in the world. While at Juilliard, Tomas continued to win competitions and perform in concerts. He won the prestigious Van Cliburn International Piano Competition in 2005, which was a major milestone in his career. He also performed with many of the world's leading orchestras, including the New York Philharmonic, the Berlin Philharmonic, and the London Symphony Orchestra. In 2008, Tomas released his first album, which was a collection of works by Chopin. The album received critical acclaim, and it helped to establish Tomas as one of the leading pianists of his generation. He went on to release several more albums, including recordings of works by Beethoven, Mozart, and Schumann. Tomas has also been recognized for his work as a composer. He has written several pieces for piano, as well as works for orchestra and chamber ensembles. His compositions have been performed by many of the world's leading musicians, and he has received several awards for his work as a composer.
