Magdalena Filipczak is a Polish-American violinist who has made a name for herself in the world of classical music. Born in 1992 in Warsaw, Poland, Filipczak began playing the violin at the age of four. Her parents, both musicians, recognized her talent early on and encouraged her to pursue a career in music. Filipczak's early training was rigorous, and she quickly developed a reputation as a prodigy. She studied with some of the most renowned violin teachers in Poland, including Krzysztof Wegrzyn and Jadwiga Kaliszewska. At the age of 11, she won first prize in the National Violin Competition for Young Musicians in Poland, and at 14, she was accepted into the prestigious Juilliard School in New York City. At Juilliard, Filipczak continued to hone her skills under the tutelage of Itzhak Perlman and Catherine Cho. She also had the opportunity to perform with some of the world's leading orchestras, including the New York Philharmonic and the Boston Symphony Orchestra. In 2012, she graduated from Juilliard with a Bachelor of Music degree. After graduating from Juilliard, Filipczak continued to perform and compete in international competitions. In 2013, she won first prize in the International Violin Competition "Virtuosi per Musica di Pianoforte" in the Czech Republic. She also won the Grand Prize at the 2014 ENKOR International Music Competition and the 2015 American Protégé International Competition. Filipczak's performances have been praised for their technical precision and emotional depth. She has been described as a "virtuoso" and a "musical powerhouse" by critics. Her repertoire includes works by some of the greatest composers in history, including Bach, Beethoven, and Brahms. One of Filipczak's most memorable performances took place in 2016, when she performed the Tchaikovsky Violin Concerto with the Warsaw Philharmonic Orchestra. The concert was held in honor of the 200th anniversary of the birth of Fryderyk Chopin, one of Poland's most beloved composers. Filipczak's performance was met with a standing ovation and critical acclaim. In addition to her performances, Filipczak is also a dedicated teacher. She has taught masterclasses at the University of Michigan and the University of North Carolina School of the Arts, among others. She is also a faculty member at the Luzerne Music Center in Lake Luzerne, New York. Filipczak's achievements have not gone unnoticed. In 2017, she was awarded the prestigious Leonore Annenberg Fellowship in the Arts, which provides support to young artists who demonstrate exceptional talent and promise.
