Jeanne Kierman was born on May 12, 1985, in New York City. She grew up in a family of musicians, with her mother being a pianist and her father a cellist. From a young age, Kierman showed a natural talent for music and began taking piano lessons at the age of four. Kierman's musical education continued throughout her childhood and teenage years. She attended the Juilliard School's Pre-College Division, where she studied with renowned pianist Yoheved Kaplinsky. She also participated in numerous competitions and festivals, including the International Keyboard Institute and Festival, the Gina Bachauer International Piano Competition, and the Aspen Music Festival and School. In 2003, Kierman was accepted into the Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia, where she studied with pianist Gary Graffman. During her time at Curtis, Kierman received numerous awards and honors, including the Claire and Samuel Edes Foundation Prize for Excellence in Piano, the Susan W. Rose Piano Fellowship, and the Curtis Institute of Music Alumni Award. After graduating from Curtis in 2007, Kierman embarked on a successful career as a concert pianist. She has performed with orchestras around the world, including the Philadelphia Orchestra, the New York Philharmonic, the London Symphony Orchestra, and the Berlin Philharmonic. She has also given solo recitals at prestigious venues such as Carnegie Hall, the Kennedy Center, and the Royal Albert Hall. Kierman's repertoire is vast and includes works by a wide range of composers, from Bach and Mozart to contemporary composers such as John Adams and Philip Glass. She is particularly known for her interpretations of the music of Chopin and Liszt, and has been praised for her technical virtuosity and emotional depth. In addition to her performing career, Kierman is also a dedicated teacher. She has taught at the Juilliard School, the Curtis Institute of Music, and the Royal Academy of Music in London. She is known for her ability to inspire and motivate her students, and many of them have gone on to successful careers as musicians. Throughout her career, Kierman has received numerous awards and accolades. In 2010, she was named a MacArthur Fellow, one of the most prestigious awards in the arts. She has also been awarded the Avery Fisher Career Grant, the Gilmore Young Artist Award, and the Arthur Rubinstein Prize.
