He was the son of a prominent lawyer and grew up in a family that valued education and the arts. From a young age, Parisotti showed a keen interest in music and began studying the piano and composition. He also had a talent for languages and became fluent in French, German, and English. Parisotti's musical education began at the Conservatorio di Santa Cecilia in Rome, where he studied composition with Giovanni Sgambati and piano with Luigi Trinchero. He was a gifted student and quickly gained a reputation as a talented composer. In 1875, he won the prestigious Prix de Rome for his composition, "La visione di Dante," which was based on Dante's "Divine Comedy." After completing his studies at the Conservatorio, Parisotti began working as a musicologist and editor. He was particularly interested in the music of the Italian Renaissance and Baroque periods and spent many years researching and transcribing works from this era. In 1882, he published a collection of Italian madrigals from the 16th and 17th centuries, which became a popular resource for singers and musicians. Parisotti's most famous work is his collection of "Arie Antiche," which he published in 1885. This collection consists of 26 Italian songs from the 17th and 18th centuries, which Parisotti transcribed and arranged for voice and piano. The songs are notable for their simplicity and elegance, and they became popular with singers and audiences alike. Many of the songs in the collection, such as "Se tu m'ami" and "Caro mio ben," have become staples of the classical vocal repertoire. In addition to his work as a musicologist and editor, Parisotti continued to compose throughout his life. He wrote a number of operas, including "La visione di Dante," which he had composed as a student, and "La fata del lago," which was based on a popular Italian fairy tale. He also wrote a number of chamber works, including string quartets and piano sonatas. Parisotti was a respected figure in the Italian music community and was known for his dedication to preserving and promoting the country's musical heritage. He was a member of the Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia and was awarded the title of Cavaliere di Gran Croce by the Italian government in recognition of his contributions to music. Parisotti died on June 17, 1913, in Rome, Italy, at the age of 59. He left behind a legacy as a composer, musicologist, and editor who had made significant contributions to the preservation and promotion of Italian music. His "Arie Antiche" collection remains a beloved and influential work in the classical vocal repertoire, and his dedication to the music of the Italian Renaissance and Baroque periods continues to inspire musicians and scholars today.More....
