Role:ComposerBirth:1975Nathan Daughtrey is a contemporary classical music composer who has made a name for himself in the world of percussion music. Born in 1975 in Durham, North Carolina, Daughtrey grew up in a musical family and began playing the piano at a young age. He later took up percussion and became interested in composing music while studying at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. After completing his undergraduate degree in music education, Daughtrey went on to earn a master's degree in percussion performance from the University of Michigan. He then returned to North Carolina to teach music at the high school level while continuing to compose and perform his own music. Daughtrey's early compositions were heavily influenced by the music of his childhood, including gospel, jazz, and rock. However, as he continued to study and explore different styles of music, his compositions began to incorporate elements of classical music as well. One of Daughtrey's most notable works is his marimba concerto, "The Yuletide Marimba," which was commissioned by the North Carolina Symphony in 2006. The piece features a solo marimba accompanied by a full orchestra and is inspired by the Christmas season. Another highlight of Daughtrey's career is his percussion quartet, "Limerick Daydreams," which was commissioned by the McCormick Percussion Group in 2008. The piece is a playful and whimsical exploration of the Irish folk tradition of limericks. In addition to his compositions for percussion, Daughtrey has also written works for other instruments and ensembles, including a string quartet, a wind ensemble, and a brass quintet. His music has been performed by a variety of orchestras and ensembles around the world, including the United States Marine Band, the Dallas Symphony Orchestra, and the Tokyo Kosei Wind Orchestra. In addition to his work as a composer, Daughtrey is also an active performer and educator. He has taught percussion at several universities and has performed as a soloist and chamber musician at numerous festivals and conferences. Overall, Nathan Daughtrey is a talented and versatile composer who has made significant contributions to the world of percussion music. His compositions are characterized by their inventive use of rhythm and melody, as well as their incorporation of diverse musical influences.More....
