Role:EnsembleThe RCA Victor Chorus was a classical music ensemble that was founded in 1940 by the RCA Victor record label. The ensemble was made up of professional singers who were known for their exceptional vocal abilities and their ability to perform a wide range of classical music styles. The founding of the RCA Victor Chorus was a response to the growing demand for classical music recordings in the United States. At the time, RCA Victor was one of the leading record labels in the country, and they recognized the need for a high-quality chorus that could perform the music that their customers wanted to hear. The ensemble was led by a number of talented conductors over the years, including Robert Shaw, who served as the chorus' music director from 1941 to 1954. Under Shaw's leadership, the RCA Victor Chorus became known for their exceptional performances of choral works by composers such as Bach, Handel, and Mozart. One of the highlights of the RCA Victor Chorus' early years was their performance of Handel's Messiah in 1943. The performance was conducted by Shaw and featured a number of talented soloists, including soprano Eileen Farrell and tenor Jan Peerce. The recording of the performance became one of the best-selling classical music albums of all time and helped to establish the RCA Victor Chorus as one of the premier choral ensembles in the world. Over the years, the RCA Victor Chorus continued to perform and record a wide range of classical music, including works by Beethoven, Brahms, and Verdi. They also collaborated with a number of other musicians and ensembles, including the Boston Symphony Orchestra and the New York Philharmonic. In addition to their performances and recordings, the RCA Victor Chorus also received a number of awards and honors over the years. In 1952, they were awarded a Grammy Award for their recording of Brahms' A German Requiem. They also received a number of other Grammy nominations over the years, including nominations for their recordings of Handel's Messiah and Bach's Mass in B Minor. Despite their many accomplishments, the RCA Victor Chorus eventually disbanded in the 1970s. However, their legacy lives on through their many recordings, which continue to be enjoyed by classical music fans around the world.More....
