The Lutoslawski Piano Duo is a classical music duo consisting of two pianists, Emilia Sitarz and Bartlomiej Wasik. The duo was formed in 2007 and has since become one of the most renowned piano duos in the world. Emilia Sitarz was born in Poland in 1982 and began playing the piano at the age of six. She studied at the Academy of Music in Krakow and later at the Royal Academy of Music in London. Bartlomiej Wasik was also born in Poland in 1982 and began playing the piano at the age of seven. He studied at the Academy of Music in Krakow and later at the Hochschule für Musik und Tanz Köln in Germany. The duo takes its name from the renowned Polish composer Witold Lutoslawski, whose music they frequently perform. The duo has also commissioned and premiered works by contemporary composers such as Pawel Mykietyn, Krzysztof Baculewski, and Wojciech Widlak. The Lutoslawski Piano Duo has performed in some of the most prestigious concert halls in the world, including the Royal Festival Hall in London, the Berlin Philharmonic, and the Carnegie Hall in New York. They have also performed at numerous international music festivals, including the Warsaw Autumn Festival, the Salzburg Festival, and the BBC Proms. One of the highlights of the duo's career was their performance at the 2013 BBC Proms, where they performed Lutoslawski's Variations on a Theme by Paganini with the BBC Symphony Orchestra. The performance was widely praised by critics, with The Guardian describing it as "a thrilling display of virtuosity and musicality."
