He was the son of a music teacher and began his musical education at a young age. Esposito showed great promise as a pianist and composer, and he went on to study at the Naples Conservatory, where he was a student of Beniamino Cesi and Paolo Serrao. Esposito's early compositions were heavily influenced by the music of his native Naples, and he often incorporated elements of Neapolitan folk music into his works. He also drew inspiration from the music of other Italian composers, such as Gioachino Rossini and Giuseppe Verdi. In 1878, Esposito moved to Dublin, Ireland, where he became a professor of piano at the Royal Irish Academy of Music. He quickly established himself as one of the leading musicians in the country, and he was highly regarded as a performer, teacher, and composer. Esposito's compositions from this period include a number of works for piano, including his Sonata in F minor, Op. 10, and his Suite in D major, Op. 15. He also wrote a number of chamber works, including his String Quartet in D minor, Op. 16, and his Piano Trio in G minor, Op. 17. Esposito's music was well-received in Ireland, and he was often praised for his ability to blend Italian and Irish musical traditions. He was also known for his skill as a pianist, and he frequently performed his own works in concert. In 1894, Esposito was appointed director of the Royal Irish Academy of Music, a position he held until his retirement in 1923. During his tenure, he worked tirelessly to promote music education in Ireland, and he was instrumental in establishing the academy as one of the leading music schools in Europe. Esposito's later compositions include a number of works for orchestra, including his Symphony in E minor, Op. 25, and his Concerto for Piano and Orchestra, Op. 31. He also wrote a number of choral works, including his Stabat Mater, Op. 33, and his Te Deum, Op. 35. Esposito's music continued to be well-regarded throughout his life, and he was often praised for his ability to combine traditional Italian musical forms with modern compositional techniques. He was also known for his skill as a pianist, and he continued to perform in public until shortly before his death. Michele Esposito died on November 12, 1929, in Dublin, Ireland. He was widely mourned by the Irish musical community, and his legacy as a composer, pianist, and educator continues to be celebrated to this day.More....
