Kirchheimer Bach Consort
Artist Info

The Kirchheimer Bach Consort is a classical music ensemble that specializes in the performance of the works of Johann Sebastian Bach and other Baroque composers. The ensemble was founded in 1995 by a group of musicians who shared a passion for the music of Bach and a desire to bring it to a wider audience. The founding members of the Kirchheimer Bach Consort were all experienced musicians who had performed with other ensembles and orchestras. They included the violinist and conductor Andreas Reiner, the cellist and musicologist Michael Maul, and the harpsichordist and organist Johannes Mayr. From the beginning, the Kirchheimer Bach Consort was committed to performing the music of Bach and other Baroque composers with historical accuracy and authenticity. This meant using period instruments and playing the music in the style and manner that would have been familiar to the composers themselves. Over the years, the Kirchheimer Bach Consort has grown in size and reputation, attracting some of the finest musicians in Europe to join its ranks. Today, the ensemble consists of around 20 musicians, including string players, wind players, and keyboardists. One of the highlights of the Kirchheimer Bach Consort's early years was its performance of Bach's St. John Passion in 1997. This was a major undertaking for the ensemble, as the work requires a large choir and orchestra. The performance was a great success, and helped to establish the Kirchheimer Bach Consort as one of the leading Baroque ensembles in Germany. Since then, the Kirchheimer Bach Consort has gone on to perform many other major works by Bach and other Baroque composers, including the Mass in B Minor, the Brandenburg Concertos, and the Goldberg Variations. The ensemble has also collaborated with other musicians and ensembles, including the renowned soprano Emma Kirkby and the Amsterdam Baroque Orchestra. In addition to its performances, the Kirchheimer Bach Consort has also been recognized for its recordings. The ensemble's recording of Bach's St. Matthew Passion, released in 2001, was widely praised for its clarity and authenticity. The recording won several awards, including the Diapason d'Or and the Preis der Deutschen Schallplattenkritik. Today, the Kirchheimer Bach Consort continues to be one of the leading Baroque ensembles in Europe. Its commitment to historical accuracy and authenticity, combined with its passion for the music of Bach and other Baroque composers, has earned it a loyal following and a reputation for excellence.
