François Rauber was a French composer, arranger, and pianist who made significant contributions to the world of classical music. Born on January 19, 1933, in Paris, France, Rauber showed an early interest in music and began playing the piano at a young age. He studied at the Conservatoire de Paris, where he honed his skills as a pianist and composer. Rauber's career in music began in the 1950s when he started working as a pianist and arranger for various French singers and musicians. He quickly gained a reputation for his exceptional skills as an arranger and became a sought-after collaborator for many artists. In the 1960s, Rauber began working with the legendary French singer Jacques Brel, arranging and composing music for some of Brel's most famous songs, including "Amsterdam," "Ne me quitte pas," and "La chanson des vieux amants." Rauber's work with Brel was a turning point in his career, and he went on to collaborate with many other famous French singers and musicians, including Juliette Gréco, Barbara, and Georges Moustaki. He also worked on several film scores, including the music for the 1967 film "Belle de Jour," directed by Luis Buñuel. In addition to his work as an arranger and composer, Rauber was also an accomplished pianist and performed in many concerts and recitals throughout his career. He was known for his virtuosic playing and his ability to bring out the emotional depth of the music he played. Rauber's contributions to the world of classical music were recognized with several awards and honors throughout his career. In 1972, he was awarded the Grand Prix de l'Académie Charles Cros for his work on the album "Jacques Brel 67." He also received the Grand Prix de la Chanson Française in 1980 for his work with Barbara. Despite his success, Rauber remained humble and dedicated to his craft throughout his career.
