He wrote music for a variety of mediums, including orchestral works, chamber music, and film scores. One of his early successes was his composition "Symphony No. 1," which was premiered by the New York Philharmonic in 1950. Throughout the 1950s and 1960s, Alford continued to compose music and gain recognition for his work. One of Alford's most famous works is his "Concerto for Violin and Orchestra," which was premiered in 1962 by the Boston Symphony Orchestra.
