Artist Info
Andrew Bulbrook is a renowned classical music artist who has made a name for himself as a violinist, chamber musician, and educator. Born in 1981 in Los Angeles, California, Bulbrook began his musical journey at a young age, showing a natural talent for the violin. He began taking lessons at the age of four and quickly progressed, eventually studying at some of the most prestigious music schools in the world. Bulbrook's early musical education was shaped by his parents, both of whom were professional musicians. His mother was a pianist, and his father was a cellist, so music was always a part of his life. He began his formal training at the Colburn School of Performing Arts in Los Angeles, where he studied with Robert Lipsett. Lipsett was a major influence on Bulbrook's development as a musician, and he credits him with instilling in him a love of the violin and a passion for music. After completing his studies at the Colburn School, Bulbrook went on to attend the Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia, where he studied with Ida Kavafian. He then went on to earn a Master of Music degree from the Juilliard School in New York City, where he studied with Robert Mann. These experiences helped to shape Bulbrook's musical style and gave him the skills and knowledge he needed to become a successful classical musician. Throughout his career, Bulbrook has performed with some of the most prestigious orchestras and ensembles in the world. He has been a member of the Calder Quartet since 2004, and the group has performed at major venues and festivals around the world, including Carnegie Hall, the Lincoln Center, and the Edinburgh International Festival. The quartet has also collaborated with a wide range of artists, including the rock band The National, composer Terry Riley, and the visual artist Matthew Ritchie. In addition to his work with the Calder Quartet, Bulbrook has also performed as a soloist with a number of orchestras, including the Los Angeles Philharmonic, the San Francisco Symphony, and the New World Symphony. He has also been a guest artist with a number of other ensembles, including the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center and the Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra. Bulbrook's performances have been widely praised for their technical skill, musicality, and emotional depth. He has been described as a "virtuoso" and a "masterful musician" by critics, and his performances have been lauded for their "passionate intensity" and "subtle nuance." He has also been recognized for his ability to connect with audiences and to bring a fresh perspective to classical music. In addition to his work as a performer, Bulbrook is also an active educator. He has taught at a number of institutions, including the Colburn School, the University of Southern California, and the University of California, Santa Barbara. He is also a founding member of the Young Musicians Foundation, which provides music education and performance opportunities to young people in Los Angeles. Bulbrook's contributions to the world of classical music have been recognized with a number of awards and honors. In 2009, he was awarded the Avery Fisher Career Grant, which is given to outstanding young musicians who show exceptional promise. He has also been a recipient of the Borletti-Buitoni Trust Fellowship, which provides financial support to young musicians at the beginning of their careers.More....
