Volker Schlott is a renowned German composer, saxophonist, and flutist who has made significant contributions to the world of classical music. Born on August 22, 1961, in Berlin, Germany, Schlott grew up in a family of musicians. His father was a jazz pianist, and his mother was a classical pianist. This musical background played a significant role in shaping Schlott's interest in music from a young age. Schlott began his musical journey by learning the piano at the age of six. However, he soon discovered his love for the saxophone and started playing it at the age of twelve. He was fascinated by the sound of the saxophone and its versatility, which led him to explore different genres of music, including jazz, classical, and world music. After completing his high school education, Schlott enrolled at the Hochschule für Musik "Hanns Eisler" in Berlin, where he studied classical saxophone under the guidance of Professor Detlef Bensmann. During his time at the music school, Schlott also developed an interest in jazz and started playing in various jazz ensembles. In 1985, Schlott graduated from the music school with a degree in classical saxophone. He then went on to pursue a career as a professional musician, performing with various jazz and classical ensembles. He also started composing his music, drawing inspiration from his diverse musical background. One of Schlott's most significant achievements as a composer was his collaboration with the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra. In 1993, he composed a piece titled "Saxophone Concerto" for the orchestra, which was premiered at the Berlin Philharmonic Hall. The piece was well-received by the audience and critics alike, and it established Schlott as a prominent composer in the classical music scene. Schlott's music is known for its unique blend of classical, jazz, and world music elements. He often incorporates traditional instruments from different cultures, such as the Indian tabla and the African djembe, into his compositions. This fusion of different musical styles and cultures has earned him a reputation as an innovative and versatile composer. Apart from his work as a composer, Schlott is also a highly skilled saxophonist and flutist. He has performed with some of the most renowned musicians in the world, including jazz legends such as Chet Baker, Art Farmer, and Benny Golson. He has also collaborated with classical musicians such as the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra and the Berlin Symphony Orchestra.
