Artist Info

Riley Mulherkar is a highly acclaimed classical music artist who has made a name for himself in the world of jazz and classical music. Born on December 22, 1992, in Seattle, Washington, Mulherkar grew up in a family of musicians and was exposed to music from a very young age. His father, a jazz pianist, and his mother, a classical flutist, were both professional musicians, and they encouraged their son to pursue his passion for music. Mulherkar began playing the trumpet at the age of six and quickly showed a natural talent for the instrument. He studied with several renowned trumpet teachers, including David Gordon and Thomas Gansch, and attended the Juilliard School in New York City, where he earned a Bachelor of Music degree in Jazz Studies. Throughout his career, Mulherkar has performed with some of the most prestigious orchestras and ensembles in the world, including the New York Philharmonic, the Seattle Symphony, and the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra. He has also collaborated with a wide range of artists, from classical pianist Lang Lang to jazz legend Wynton Marsalis. One of Mulherkar's most notable performances was his solo debut with the New York Philharmonic in 2016. He performed the world premiere of a new work by composer Christopher Rouse, which was written specifically for him. The performance was widely praised by critics, who noted Mulherkar's virtuosic playing and his ability to bring out the emotional depth of the music. In addition to his work as a performer, Mulherkar is also a dedicated educator and advocate for music education. He has taught masterclasses and workshops at schools and universities around the world, and he is a co-founder of Brass Against Racism, a collective of brass musicians who use their music to promote social justice and equality. Mulherkar has received numerous awards and honors throughout his career, including the 2014 National Trumpet Competition Jazz Division, the 2015 Downbeat Magazine Student Music Award for Best Jazz Soloist, and the 2016 Yamaha Young Performing Artist Award. He was also a finalist in the 2019 Thelonious Monk Institute of Jazz International Trumpet Competition. Despite his many accomplishments, Mulherkar remains humble and dedicated to his craft. He continues to push the boundaries of classical and jazz music, exploring new sounds and styles while staying true to his roots. With his talent, passion, and commitment to music education, he is sure to inspire generations of musicians to come.
