He was the youngest of three children and grew up in a family of musicians. His father was a violinist and his mother was a pianist, so music was always a part of his life. Batailley began playing the piano at a young age and showed great talent from the start. He studied at the Paris Conservatory and won several awards for his performances. In 1949, he won the first prize in the piano competition at the Conservatory and was awarded the Prix de Rome in 1952. After completing his studies, Batailley began performing in concerts throughout Europe and the United States. He quickly gained a reputation as one of the most talented pianists of his generation. His performances were known for their technical brilliance and emotional depth. One of Batailley's most memorable performances was at the 1958 Brussels World's Fair. He played a solo recital that was broadcast live on television to millions of viewers around the world. The performance was a huge success and helped to establish Batailley as a major figure in the world of classical music. Batailley also performed with some of the world's leading orchestras, including the Berlin Philharmonic, the London Symphony Orchestra, and the New York Philharmonic. He was known for his interpretations of the works of Beethoven, Chopin, and Mozart, among others. In addition to his performances, Batailley was also a prolific composer. He wrote several pieces for piano, as well as chamber music and orchestral works. His compositions were often inspired by his travels and experiences, and were known for their lyrical beauty and emotional depth. Throughout his career, Batailley received numerous awards and honors for his contributions to classical music. In 1963, he was awarded the Legion of Honor, one of France's highest honors.
