St. Petersburg Chorus Lik is a classical music ensemble that was founded in 1991 in St. Petersburg, Russia. The ensemble is known for its exceptional performances of Russian choral music, as well as works from other countries and periods. The founding members of St. Petersburg Chorus Lik were a group of friends who shared a passion for choral music. They began rehearsing together in a small apartment in St. Petersburg, and soon realized that they had a special chemistry and talent for singing together. They decided to form an ensemble and named it Lik, which means "harmony" in Russian. The ensemble's early performances were well-received, and they quickly gained a reputation for their beautiful and powerful singing. They began to perform in churches and concert halls throughout St. Petersburg, and soon expanded their reach to other cities in Russia and Europe. One of the highlights of St. Petersburg Chorus Lik's early career was their performance at the 1994 International Choral Festival in Tallinn, Estonia. Since then, St. Petersburg Chorus Lik has continued to perform at major choral festivals and concerts around the world. They have collaborated with renowned conductors and soloists, and have recorded several albums of Russian choral music. One of the ensemble's most notable performances was their 2003 concert at the Vatican in Rome, where they sang for Pope John Paul II. The concert was a tribute to the Russian Orthodox Church, and included works by composers such as Rachmaninoff, Tchaikovsky, and Stravinsky. St. Petersburg Chorus Lik has also performed at the Edinburgh International Festival, the Salzburg Festival, and the BBC Proms. They are led by conductor and artistic director Boris Abalyan, who has been with the ensemble since its founding.
