Gwen Catley was a British soprano who was born on August 7, 1906, in London, England. She was the daughter of a Welsh father and an English mother. Her father was a professional singer, and her mother was a pianist. Gwen grew up in a musical family, and she showed an interest in music from a young age. Gwen began her musical training at the Royal Academy of Music in London. She studied under the tutelage of the renowned soprano, Agnes Nicholls. Gwen's talent was evident from the start, and she quickly became one of the academy's most promising students. After completing her studies, Gwen began her professional career as a concert singer. She made her debut in 1928, performing in a concert at the Royal Albert Hall in London. Her performance was well-received, and she soon became a sought-after performer.
