Lukasz Pohl was born on May 12, 1985, in Warsaw, Poland. He grew up in a family of musicians, with his father being a pianist and his mother a violinist. From a young age, Pohl showed a natural talent for music and began playing the piano at the age of four. He later learned to play the violin and the cello, and by the age of ten, he was already composing his own music. Pohl's parents recognized his talent and encouraged him to pursue a career in music. He attended the Fryderyk Chopin University of Music in Warsaw, where he studied composition under the guidance of renowned composers such as Krzysztof Penderecki and Paweł Szymański. During his studies, Pohl also had the opportunity to work with some of the best orchestras in Poland, including the National Philharmonic Orchestra and the Warsaw Philharmonic Orchestra. Pohl's early works were heavily influenced by the classical music of the Romantic era, particularly the works of Chopin and Liszt. However, as he continued to develop his own style, he began to incorporate elements of contemporary music into his compositions. His music is characterized by its emotional depth, intricate harmonies, and use of unconventional instrumentation. One of Pohl's most notable works is his Piano Concerto No. 1, which was premiered in 2010 by the Warsaw Philharmonic Orchestra. The concerto is a virtuosic showcase for the soloist, with fast-paced runs and intricate passages that require great technical skill. However, it is also a deeply emotional work, with moments of intense beauty and introspection. Another highlight of Pohl's career is his opera, The Last Days of the World, which premiered in 2015 at the Grand Theatre in Warsaw. The opera is based on the novel of the same name by Polish author Jerzy Żuławski and tells the story of a group of scientists who discover that the world is about to end. Pohl's music is a perfect match for the apocalyptic subject matter, with its dark, brooding textures and haunting melodies. In addition to his classical compositions, Pohl has also worked extensively in the film and television industry. He has composed music for numerous Polish films and television shows, including the popular crime drama The Border. His music for film and television is often more minimalist than his classical works, with a focus on creating atmosphere and mood. Despite his success, Pohl remains humble and dedicated to his craft.
