The band was founded in 1941 as the 564th Air Force Band and has since become one of the most respected and renowned military bands in the country. The band is made up of 45 talented musicians who are all members of the United States Air Force. These musicians come from all over the country and have been selected for their exceptional musical abilities. They are led by Colonel Michael D. Hockley, who serves as the commander and conductor of the band. Over the years, the United States Air Force Heartland of America Band has performed at some of the most prestigious venues in the world. They have played at the White House, the Kennedy Center, and Carnegie Hall, among others. They have also performed for numerous dignitaries, including several U.S. presidents and foreign heads of state. One of the band's most notable performances was at the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta, Georgia. They were selected to perform at the opening ceremonies, where they played a stirring rendition of "The Star-Spangled Banner" that brought the crowd to its feet. The band also performed at the closing ceremonies, where they played a medley of patriotic songs that left a lasting impression on the audience.
