He was the son of a schoolmaster and was introduced to music at a young age. His father taught him to play the violin, and he later learned to play the piano and the organ. Dussek began his musical career as a choirboy in Prague, where he received a thorough education in music theory and composition. He later studied with the famous composer Johann Stamitz in Mannheim, Germany, where he honed his skills as a composer and performer. In 1759, Dussek moved to Paris, where he quickly established himself as a prominent composer and performer. He became a member of the Concert Spirituel, one of the most prestigious musical organizations in France at the time, and his music was performed regularly at the court of Louis XV. Dussek's music was characterized by its elegance, grace, and lyricism. He was particularly skilled at writing for the piano, and his keyboard works were highly regarded by his contemporaries. His music was also notable for its use of chromaticism and modulations, which were considered innovative at the time. Some of Dussek's most famous works include his Piano Sonata in C minor, Op. 9, No. 1, his Piano Sonata in F major, Op. 10, No. 3, and his Piano Sonata in G minor, Op. 10, No. 2. He also wrote a number of chamber works, including his String Quartet in E-flat major, Op. 1, No. 1, and his String Quartet in B-flat major, Op. 1, No. 2. In addition to his work as a composer, Dussek was also a highly regarded performer. He was known for his virtuosic piano playing and was considered one of the greatest pianists of his time. He performed extensively throughout Europe, and his concerts were always well-received. Dussek's career was cut short by his untimely death in 1799. He died in St. Germain-en-Laye, France, at the age of 68. Despite his relatively short career, Dussek left a lasting legacy in the world of classical music. His music continues to be performed and admired by musicians and music lovers around the world.More....
