Birth:1976Karen Slack is a renowned American soprano who has made a name for herself in the world of classical music. Born in Cleveland, Ohio, Slack grew up in a musical family and was exposed to music from a young age. Her mother was a church choir director, and her father was a jazz musician. Slack began singing in church choirs and school musicals, and her talent was quickly recognized. Slack attended the Cleveland Institute of Music, where she studied with George Vassos. She then went on to earn a Master of Music degree from the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music. After completing her studies, Slack began her professional career as a member of the Young Artist Program at the Cleveland Opera. Slack's career took off in the early 2000s when she began performing with major opera companies across the United States. She made her debut with the Houston Grand Opera in 2002, playing the role of Serena in Porgy and Bess.
