Born in Bulgaria in 1973, Kaltchev began playing the piano at the age of five and quickly showed a natural talent for the instrument. He went on to study at the National Music Academy in Sofia, Bulgaria, where he received his Bachelor's and Master's degrees in piano performance. Kaltchev's early career was marked by numerous awards and accolades. In 1992, he won first prize at the International Piano Competition in Senigallia, Italy, and in 1994 he was awarded the Grand Prix at the International Piano Competition in Varna, Bulgaria. He also won the Yamaha Music Foundation of Europe Scholarship in 1995, which allowed him to study at the Royal Academy of Music in London. After completing his studies in London, Kaltchev moved to the United States to pursue a career as a concert pianist. He quickly established himself as a rising star in the classical music world, performing at major venues across the country and earning critical acclaim for his virtuosic playing and sensitive interpretations of classical repertoire. One of Kaltchev's most notable performances came in 2001, when he was invited to perform at the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C. as part of the Millennium Stage series. His performance was broadcast live on national television and received widespread praise from critics and audiences alike. In addition to his career as a performer, Kaltchev is also a highly respected teacher and mentor to young musicians.
