Petar Jankovic is a renowned classical guitarist and composer who has captivated audiences around the world with his virtuosic performances and innovative compositions. Born in Belgrade, Serbia in 1974, Jankovic began playing the guitar at the age of eight and quickly showed a natural talent for the instrument. He studied with some of the most respected guitarists in Serbia, including Srdjan Tosic and Zoran Krajisnik, and went on to earn a degree in guitar performance from the University of Belgrade. Jankovic's early career was marked by a series of impressive performances and awards. In 1995, he won first prize at the International Guitar Competition in Arandjelovac, Serbia, and in 1997 he was awarded the prestigious "Virtuoso" prize at the International Guitar Festival in Novi Sad, Serbia. These early successes helped to establish Jankovic as one of the most promising young guitarists of his generation. In 1998, Jankovic moved to the United States to pursue further studies at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, where he earned a Master of Music degree in guitar performance. While in Milwaukee, Jankovic continued to build his reputation as a performer, winning first prize at the 2000 Schubert Club Competition in St. Paul, Minnesota, and performing as a soloist with the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra. Jankovic's career continued to flourish in the years that followed, as he performed at major venues and festivals around the world. In 2002, he made his debut at New York's Carnegie Hall, performing as part of the D'Addario Foundation's "Emerging Artist" series. He has also performed at the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C., the Ravinia Festival in Chicago, and the Guitar Foundation of America International Convention, among many other prestigious venues. Jankovic's performances have been praised for their technical brilliance and emotional depth. He is known for his ability to bring out the full range of colors and textures in the guitar, creating a rich and nuanced sound that is both powerful and delicate. His repertoire includes works by some of the greatest composers in the classical guitar tradition, including Francisco Tárrega, Isaac Albéniz, and Heitor Villa-Lobos, as well as his own original compositions. In addition to his work as a performer, Jankovic is also an accomplished composer. His compositions draw on a wide range of influences, from the classical guitar tradition to Serbian folk music and jazz. His works have been performed by some of the world's leading guitarists, including David Russell, Ana Vidovic, and the Los Angeles Guitar Quartet. Jankovic's compositions have also been recognized with a number of awards and honors. In 2005, he won first prize in the composition competition at the Guitar Foundation of America International Convention for his piece "Balkan Dance." He has also been commissioned to write works for a variety of ensembles, including the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra and the Los Angeles Guitar Quartet. Throughout his career, Jankovic has remained committed to sharing his love of music with others. He has taught at a number of institutions, including the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, the University of Notre Dame, and the University of Louisville. He has also given masterclasses and workshops around the world, helping to inspire and educate the next generation of guitarists.
