Milwaukee Choral Artists is a classical music ensemble that was founded in 1998 by Sharon Hansen, a renowned choral conductor and music educator. The ensemble is based in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and is composed of 32 talented and dedicated singers who share a passion for choral music. The founding of Milwaukee Choral Artists was inspired by Sharon Hansen's vision of creating a professional-level choral ensemble that would showcase the beauty and power of choral music to audiences in Milwaukee and beyond. Hansen, who had previously served as the director of the Milwaukee Symphony Chorus and the Bel Canto Chorus, brought her extensive experience and expertise to the new ensemble, which quickly gained a reputation for excellence. Over the years, Milwaukee Choral Artists has attracted some of the finest choral singers in the region, many of whom have gone on to successful careers in music. The ensemble's members come from a variety of backgrounds and professions, but all share a deep love of choral music and a commitment to excellence in performance. Milwaukee Choral Artists has performed a wide range of choral repertoire, from Renaissance motets to contemporary works, and has collaborated with many of the region's leading orchestras and soloists. The ensemble has also commissioned and premiered several new works by contemporary composers, including John Muehleisen, Ola Gjeilo, and Eric Whitacre. One of the highlights of Milwaukee Choral Artists' history was its performance at the 2002 National Convention of the American Choral Directors Association (ACDA) in New York City. The ensemble was one of only six choirs selected from across the country to perform at the prestigious event, and its performance was widely praised for its artistry and technical excellence. Milwaukee Choral Artists has also been recognized with numerous awards and honors over the years. In 2004, the ensemble was awarded the prestigious Margaret Hillis Award for Choral Excellence by Chorus America, the national service organization for choral music. The award recognized Milwaukee Choral Artists' outstanding artistic achievements and contributions to the choral community. In addition to its regular concert series, Milwaukee Choral Artists has also been involved in a number of community outreach and education programs. The ensemble has worked with local schools and community groups to promote choral music and provide opportunities for young singers to develop their skills and talents. Milwaukee Choral Artists continues to be a leading voice in the choral music community, both in Milwaukee and beyond.
