Anne Baker was born on May 15, 1985, in London, England. She grew up in a family of musicians, with her mother being a pianist and her father a cellist. From a young age, Anne showed a natural talent for music and began playing the violin at the age of four. Anne's parents recognized her talent and encouraged her to pursue a career in music. She began taking private lessons with renowned violinists and attended the Royal Academy of Music in London, where she studied under the guidance of Professor David Takeno. During her time at the Royal Academy of Music, Anne won several awards and competitions, including the prestigious Royal Academy of Music Bach Prize and the Royal Philharmonic Society's Julius Isserlis Scholarship. These awards helped to establish Anne as a rising star in the classical music world. After graduating from the Royal Academy of Music, Anne began performing with some of the world's leading orchestras, including the London Symphony Orchestra, the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, and the Berlin Philharmonic. She also performed as a soloist with many of these orchestras, showcasing her virtuosic talent and musical sensitivity. One of Anne's most memorable performances was her debut at the BBC Proms in 2008. She performed the Tchaikovsky Violin Concerto with the London Symphony Orchestra, receiving critical acclaim for her performance. The Guardian praised her "dazzling technique and musicality," while The Times called her "a violinist of rare talent and charisma." In addition to her performances as a soloist, Anne was also a passionate chamber musician. She was a founding member of the Baker Quartet, which quickly gained a reputation for its innovative programming and dynamic performances. The quartet performed at major music festivals around the world, including the Edinburgh International Festival and the Salzburg Festival. Anne's dedication to music and her exceptional talent were recognized with numerous awards and honors throughout her career. In 2010, she was awarded the prestigious Borletti-Buitoni Trust Fellowship, which provides financial support and career guidance to exceptional young musicians. She was also named a BBC New Generation Artist, a program that supports and promotes the most promising young musicians in the UK. Tragically, Anne's promising career was cut short when she was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer in 2012. Despite undergoing extensive treatment, Anne passed away on January 1, 2014, at the age of 28. Anne's legacy lives on through her recordings and the memories of those who were fortunate enough to hear her perform. She was a true artist, with a passion for music that was evident in every note she played. Her talent, dedication, and spirit continue to inspire young musicians around the world.
