Role:EnsembleTankstream Quartet is a classical music ensemble based in Sydney, Australia. The quartet was founded in 2012 by four talented musicians who shared a passion for chamber music. The founding members of the quartet were violinists Rebecca Gill and James Wannan, violist Elizabeth Woolnough, and cellist Ruben Palma. Rebecca Gill, the first violinist of the quartet, is a graduate of the Sydney Conservatorium of Music and has performed with various orchestras and ensembles in Australia and overseas. James Wannan, the second violinist, is also a graduate of the Sydney Conservatorium of Music and has performed with the Australian Chamber Orchestra and the Sydney Symphony Orchestra. Elizabeth Woolnough, the violist, is a graduate of the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester, UK, and has performed with the Australian Opera and Ballet Orchestra. Ruben Palma, the cellist, is a graduate of the Sydney Conservatorium of Music and has performed with the Australian Chamber Orchestra and the Sydney Symphony Orchestra. The quartet takes its name from the Tank Stream, a small stream that once flowed through the heart of Sydney and was the city's main source of fresh water in the early days of European settlement. The Tank Stream is now underground, but its name lives on in the quartet's name. Since its founding, Tankstream Quartet has established itself as one of Australia's leading chamber music ensembles. The quartet has performed at major music festivals and venues across Australia, including the Sydney Opera House, the Melbourne Recital Centre, and the Adelaide Festival Centre. The quartet has also toured internationally, performing in Europe and Asia. One of the highlights of Tankstream Quartet's career was its performance at the 2014 Musica Viva Festival in Sydney. The festival is one of Australia's premier classical music events, and Tankstream Quartet was one of the featured ensembles. The quartet's performance was widely praised by critics and audiences alike, and helped to establish the quartet's reputation as one of Australia's most exciting young ensembles. Tankstream Quartet has also been the recipient of numerous awards and accolades. In 2013, the quartet was awarded the Musica Viva Chamber Music Award, which recognizes outstanding young chamber music ensembles in Australia. The quartet was also a finalist in the 2014 Australian National Chamber Music Competition, and was awarded the Audience Prize. In addition to its performances, Tankstream Quartet is also committed to music education and outreach. The quartet has conducted workshops and masterclasses for young musicians across Australia, and has worked with schools and community groups to promote classical music and chamber music in particular. Tankstream Quartet's repertoire is diverse and includes works from the classical and contemporary periods. The quartet has a particular interest in Australian music, and has commissioned and premiered works by Australian composers such as Ross Edwards and Elena Kats-Chernin. In conclusion, Tankstream Quartet is a dynamic and talented ensemble that has established itself as one of Australia's leading chamber music ensembles. With its commitment to music education and outreach, as well as its diverse repertoire and exciting performances, the quartet is sure to continue to delight audiences both in Australia and around the world.More....
