He was the youngest of three children born to a family of musicians. His father was a violinist, and his mother was a pianist. Jozef showed an interest in music from a young age and began playing the piano at the age of four. Jozef's parents recognized his talent and encouraged him to pursue a career in music. He began taking piano lessons with his mother and later studied at the Krakow Music Academy. He also studied with renowned pianists such as Martha Argerich and Vladimir Ashkenazy. Jozef's talent was quickly recognized, and he began performing in concerts and competitions. In 1965, he won first prize at the International Chopin Piano Competition in Warsaw, which launched his career as a professional pianist. Over the years, Jozef performed in some of the world's most prestigious concert halls, including Carnegie Hall in New York, the Royal Albert Hall in London, and the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam. He also performed with some of the world's leading orchestras, including the Berlin Philharmonic, the London Symphony Orchestra, and the New York Philharmonic. Jozef was known for his virtuosic playing and his ability to bring out the emotional depth of the music he played. He was particularly renowned for his interpretations of the works of Chopin, Beethoven, and Mozart. Throughout his career, Jozef received numerous awards and honors. In addition to his win at the International Chopin Piano Competition, he also won first prize at the International Tchaikovsky Competition in Moscow in 1966.
