Birth:1943David Weiss is a renowned American jazz trumpeter, composer, and bandleader. He was born on February 22, 1964, in New York City, New York, and grew up in Queens. Weiss was exposed to music at a young age, as his father was a jazz enthusiast and would often play records at home. He began playing the trumpet at the age of eight and was soon performing in his school's band. Weiss attended the Manhattan School of Music, where he studied with renowned jazz trumpeter Donald Byrd. He also studied with other notable musicians such as Freddie Hubbard and Wynton Marsalis. During his time at the Manhattan School of Music, Weiss formed his first band, The New Jazz Composers Octet, which consisted of fellow students and alumni. In 1991, Weiss released his debut album, "Breathing Room," which featured his compositions and arrangements. The album received critical acclaim and established Weiss as a rising star in the jazz world. He went on to release several more albums as a bandleader, including "The Mirror" (1994), "Breath of Air" (1995), and "Innocence Lost" (1997). Weiss has also collaborated with many other jazz musicians throughout his career. He has performed with Freddie Hubbard, Charles Tolliver, Billy Harper, and many others. He has also been a member of the Mingus Big Band, a group dedicated to the music of jazz legend Charles Mingus. One of Weiss's most notable performances was at the 2008 Newport Jazz Festival, where he performed with his band, The Point of Departure Sextet.
