Duo Sol is a classical music ensemble that was founded in 2008 by two talented musicians, violinist Solomiya Ivakhiv and pianist Angelina Gadeliya. The duo has since become known for their dynamic and passionate performances, which showcase their exceptional technical skills and deep understanding of the music they play. Solomiya Ivakhiv was born in Ukraine and began playing the violin at the age of six. She went on to study at the Lviv Music Academy and later at the Manhattan School of Music in New York City. Angelina Gadeliya, on the other hand, was born in Georgia and started playing the piano at the age of five. She studied at the Tbilisi State Conservatory and later at the Juilliard School in New York City. The two musicians met while studying at the Manhattan School of Music and quickly discovered a shared passion for chamber music. They began performing together as Duo Sol and quickly gained recognition for their exceptional talent and musicality. One of the highlights of Duo Sol's early career was their performance at the 2009 International Keyboard Institute and Festival in New York City. The duo received critical acclaim for their performance of Beethoven's Sonata No. 9 in A Major, Op. 47, also known as the "Kreutzer Sonata." The New York Concert Review praised the duo's "impeccable ensemble playing" and "deeply felt interpretation." Since then, Duo Sol has gone on to perform at some of the most prestigious concert halls and festivals around the world. They have performed at Carnegie Hall, the Kennedy Center, the Ravinia Festival, and the Aspen Music Festival, among others. They have also collaborated with some of the world's leading musicians, including cellist Yo-Yo Ma and pianist Emanuel Ax. One of the most memorable performances in Duo Sol's career was their 2012 performance at the Ukrainian Institute of America in New York City. The concert was a tribute to the victims of the Holodomor, a man-made famine that occurred in Ukraine in the early 1930s. Duo Sol performed works by Ukrainian composers, including Myroslav Skoryk and Valentin Silvestrov, as well as works by Beethoven and Brahms. The concert was a moving tribute to the victims of the Holodomor and a testament to Duo Sol's commitment to using music as a means of promoting social justice and awareness. Duo Sol has also received numerous awards and accolades for their performances. In 2010, they were awarded the First Prize at the Liszt-Garrison International Piano Duo Competition. They were also awarded the Bronze Medal at the Fischoff National Chamber Music Competition in 2011. In 2013, they were awarded the Aaron Copland Fund for Music Performance Program Grant, which allowed them to commission new works for violin and piano. In addition to their performances and awards, Duo Sol is also committed to music education and outreach. They have conducted masterclasses and workshops at universities and music schools around the world, including the Juilliard School, the Manhattan School of Music, and the Tbilisi State Conservatory. They have also worked with young musicians through the Sphinx Organization, an organization that supports the development of young musicians from underrepresented communities. Duo Sol's repertoire is diverse and includes works from a wide range of composers and styles.
