Will Mason was a classical music composer who was born on May 12, 1978, in New York City. He grew up in a family of musicians, with his father being a jazz pianist and his mother a classical violinist. From a young age, Mason was exposed to a wide range of musical genres, which helped shape his unique style of composition. Mason began his formal music education at the age of six, when he started taking piano lessons. He quickly showed a natural talent for the instrument and began composing his own pieces by the age of eight. As he grew older, Mason continued to study piano and also began learning other instruments, including the violin and cello. In 1996, Mason enrolled at the Juilliard School in New York City, where he studied composition under the renowned composer John Corigliano. During his time at Juilliard, Mason developed a deep appreciation for classical music and began to explore the works of composers such as Bach, Beethoven, and Mozart. After graduating from Juilliard in 2000, Mason began working as a freelance composer, writing music for a variety of projects, including film scores, television commercials, and video games. He quickly gained a reputation for his innovative and eclectic style, which blended elements of classical, jazz, and world music. One of Mason's early successes was his score for the 2003 film "The Station Agent," which won critical acclaim and helped establish him as a rising star in the world of film music. He went on to write scores for a number of other films, including "The Visitor" (2007) and "The Place Beyond the Pines" (2012). In addition to his work in film music, Mason also composed a number of classical works, including several symphonies, concertos, and chamber pieces. One of his most notable works was his Symphony No. 1, which premiered in 2008 and was praised for its bold and innovative use of orchestration. Mason's music was characterized by its rich harmonies, intricate rhythms, and lush orchestration. He drew inspiration from a wide range of musical traditions, including classical, jazz, folk, and world music, and was known for his ability to seamlessly blend these influences into his compositions. Tragically, Mason's life was cut short when he passed away in a car accident on June 15, 2015, at the age of 37. His death was a great loss to the world of music, but his legacy lives on through his compositions, which continue to be performed and celebrated by musicians and audiences around the world.
