Diliana Momtchilova is a Bulgarian classical pianist who has gained international recognition for her virtuosic performances and musical interpretations. Born on May 22, 1981, in Sofia, Bulgaria, Diliana showed an early interest in music and began playing the piano at the age of five. Her parents, both music teachers, recognized her talent and encouraged her to pursue a career in music. Diliana's early musical education was at the National School of Music "Lyubomir Pipkov" in Sofia, where she studied with renowned Bulgarian pianist and pedagogue, Prof. Stella Dimitrova-Maistorova. She continued her studies at the National Academy of Music "Pancho Vladigerov" in Sofia, where she earned a Bachelor's degree in Piano Performance under the guidance of Prof. Milena Mollova. Diliana then went on to pursue a Master's degree in Piano Performance at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna, Austria, where she studied with Prof. Stefan Vladar. Throughout her education, Diliana received numerous awards and accolades for her musical talent. In 1997, she won first prize at the National Piano Competition "Svetoslav Obretenov" in Provadia, Bulgaria. In 2000, she was awarded the "Young Musician of the Year" prize by the Bulgarian National Radio. In 2002, she won first prize at the International Piano Competition "Citta di Marsala" in Italy, and in 2003, she was a finalist at the International Piano Competition "F. Busoni" in Bolzano, Italy. Diliana's career as a professional pianist began in earnest after she completed her studies in Vienna. She has since performed extensively throughout Europe, Asia, and the United States, both as a soloist and as a chamber musician. Some of her most notable performances include a recital at the Wiener Musikverein in Vienna, Austria, in 2006, and a performance of Beethoven's Piano Concerto No. 4 with the Sofia Philharmonic Orchestra in 2010. In addition to her performances, Diliana is also a dedicated music educator. She has taught piano at the National School of Music "Lyubomir Pipkov" in Sofia, Bulgaria, and at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna, Austria. She has also given masterclasses and workshops for young pianists in Bulgaria, Austria, and the United States. Diliana's musical style is characterized by her technical precision and her ability to convey deep emotional expression through her playing. She is particularly known for her interpretations of the works of Beethoven, Chopin, and Liszt. Her recordings of these composers' works have received critical acclaim, with reviewers praising her "sensitive and nuanced playing" and her "impeccable technique." In recognition of her musical achievements, Diliana has received numerous awards and honors. In 2012, she was awarded the "Crystal Lyre" prize by the Bulgarian Ministry of Culture for her contributions to Bulgarian music. In 2014, she was named a Steinway Artist, joining a prestigious group of pianists who are recognized for their excellence in performance and dedication to the art of piano playing.
