Irina Muresanu is a Romanian-American violinist who has established herself as one of the most exciting and versatile musicians of her generation. Born in Romania, Muresanu began playing the violin at the age of five and quickly showed a natural talent for the instrument. She went on to study at the George Enescu Music School in Bucharest, where she was mentored by some of the country's most renowned violinists. In 1991, Muresanu moved to the United States to continue her studies at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. She later earned a Master's degree from the New England Conservatory of Music in Boston, where she studied with renowned violinist and pedagogue Dorothy DeLay. Muresanu also holds a Doctorate in Music from the University of Maryland. Throughout her career, Muresanu has been recognized for her exceptional talent and musicianship. She has won numerous awards and competitions, including the top prize at the Washington International Competition, the Pro Musicis International Award, and the Arthur Foote Award from the Harvard Musical Association. She has also been a recipient of the prestigious Fulbright Scholarship, which allowed her to study and perform in Europe. Muresanu has performed as a soloist with many of the world's leading orchestras, including the Boston Pops, the Baltimore Symphony, the Orchestre de la Suisse Romande, and the Romanian National Orchestra. She has also been a featured artist at major music festivals around the world, including the Newport Music Festival, the Rockport Chamber Music Festival, and the Festival de Musique de Chambre de Montréal. In addition to her solo career, Muresanu is an active chamber musician and collaborator. She has performed with some of the most distinguished musicians of our time, including pianist Menahem Pressler, cellist Yo-Yo Ma, and violinist Joshua Bell. She is also a founding member of the Boston Trio, which has been praised for its "superb playing, palpable chemistry, spirit, and emotional depth." Muresanu is known for her passionate and expressive playing, as well as her commitment to promoting classical music to new audiences. She has been a frequent guest on radio and television programs, and has given masterclasses and workshops at universities and music schools around the world. She is also a dedicated teacher, and has served on the faculty of several prestigious institutions, including the New England Conservatory of Music and the University of Maryland. Throughout her career, Muresanu has recorded several critically acclaimed albums, including "Four Strings Around the World," which features music from Romania, Hungary, and Argentina, and "Echoes from Romania," which showcases the works of Romanian composers. Her most recent album, "The Four Seasons," features Vivaldi's iconic work alongside Astor Piazzolla's "Four Seasons of Buenos Aires." In addition to her musical accomplishments, Muresanu is also a dedicated philanthropist. She has been involved with several charitable organizations, including the Boston-based Shelter Music Boston, which brings live classical music performances to homeless shelters and other underserved communities.
