Tom Boyd is a renowned classical music artist who has made a significant contribution to the world of music. He was born on December 14, 1945, in Los Angeles, California, to a family of musicians. His father, Bill Boyd, was a jazz guitarist, and his mother, Betty Bennett, was a jazz singer. Tom grew up in a musical environment and was exposed to various genres of music from an early age. Tom started playing the oboe when he was in high school. He was initially drawn to the instrument because of its unique sound and the challenge it presented. He quickly became proficient in playing the oboe and started performing in local orchestras and ensembles. He also studied music at the University of Southern California and the California Institute of the Arts. In 1970, Tom joined the Los Angeles Philharmonic Orchestra as the principal oboist. He held this position for 39 years and became one of the longest-serving members of the orchestra.
