Knut Söderstrom was a Swedish composer who was born on May 12, 1920, in Stockholm, Sweden. He was the son of a music teacher and grew up in a musical family. His father was a pianist and his mother was a singer, and they both encouraged him to pursue a career in music. Söderstrom began his musical education at the Royal College of Music in Stockholm, where he studied composition with Hilding Rosenberg and conducting with Tor Mann. He also studied piano with Gunnar de Frumerie and organ with Alf Linder. After completing his studies, Söderstrom worked as a freelance composer and conductor. He composed music for films, television, and radio, as well as for the concert hall. He also conducted orchestras and choirs throughout Sweden. Söderstrom's music is characterized by its lyrical melodies, rich harmonies, and colorful orchestration. He was influenced by the music of Jean Sibelius, Igor Stravinsky, and Béla Bartók, among others. One of Söderstrom's most famous works is his Symphony No. 1, which he composed in 1952.
