From a young age, Fridrik showed a keen interest in music and began playing the piano at the age of five. He began performing in public at the age of seven and was soon recognized as one of the most promising young musicians in Iceland. In 1985, Fridrik was awarded a scholarship to study at the prestigious Juilliard School in New York City. After graduating from Juilliard in 1989, Fridrik returned to Iceland and began performing regularly with the Iceland Symphony Orchestra.
