Richard Feves is a renowned classical music artist who has made a significant contribution to the world of music. He was born in 1951 in New York City, where he grew up in a family of musicians. His father was a jazz pianist, and his mother was a classical pianist. Feves started playing the cello at the age of six and showed exceptional talent from an early age. Feves received his formal education in music at the Juilliard School, where he studied under the tutelage of Leonard Rose. He also studied with Harvey Shapiro and Channing Robbins. During his time at Juilliard, Feves won several awards, including the Naumburg Award and the Concert Artists Guild Award. After completing his studies, Feves began his professional career as a cellist. He joined the New York Philharmonic in 1976, where he served as the principal cellist for over 30 years. During his tenure with the New York Philharmonic, Feves performed in numerous concerts and recordings, including the orchestra's historic tour of China in 1973. Feves has also performed as a soloist with many other orchestras, including the Boston Symphony Orchestra, the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, and the Los Angeles Philharmonic. He has collaborated with many renowned conductors, including Leonard Bernstein, Zubin Mehta, and Seiji Ozawa. In addition to his work as a cellist, Feves is also an accomplished composer and arranger. He has written several pieces for the cello, including a concerto for cello and orchestra, which he premiered with the New York Philharmonic in 1995. He has also arranged music for the cello, including works by Bach, Beethoven, and Brahms. Feves has received numerous awards and honors throughout his career.
