John Fitzgerald was born on May 12, 1985, in New York City. He grew up in a family of musicians, with his father being a renowned pianist and his mother a violinist. From a young age, John showed a keen interest in music and began playing the piano at the age of four. John's parents recognized his talent and encouraged him to pursue a career in music. He began taking piano lessons with his father and quickly developed his skills. By the age of ten, John had already won several local piano competitions and was invited to perform at various events. In 1997, John was accepted into the Juilliard School's Pre-College Division, where he studied under the guidance of renowned pianist Yoheved Kaplinsky. During his time at Juilliard, John continued to excel, winning numerous awards and competitions. In 2003, he graduated from the Pre-College Division with honors and was accepted into the Juilliard School's college program. While at Juilliard, John studied with some of the most respected pianists in the world, including Emanuel Ax, Murray Perahia, and András Schiff. He also had the opportunity to perform in some of the most prestigious concert halls in the world, including Carnegie Hall and the Lincoln Center. In 2007, John graduated from Juilliard with a Bachelor of Music degree. He then went on to pursue a Master of Music degree at the Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia, where he studied with renowned pianist Gary Graffman. During his time at Curtis, John continued to win awards and competitions, including the prestigious Avery Fisher Career Grant in 2011. He also performed with some of the world's leading orchestras, including the New York Philharmonic, the Philadelphia Orchestra, and the Boston Symphony Orchestra. In 2013, John graduated from Curtis with a Master of Music degree. He then went on to pursue a Doctor of Musical Arts degree at the University of Michigan, where he studied with renowned pianist Logan Skelton. During his time at the University of Michigan, John continued to perform and win awards, including the prestigious Gilmore Young Artist Award in 2016. He also began to focus on teaching, serving as a teaching assistant at the university and giving masterclasses around the world. In 2018, John graduated from the University of Michigan with a Doctor of Musical Arts degree. He then began a career as a concert pianist and teacher, performing around the world and teaching at various institutions. Some of John's most notable performances include his debut with the New York Philharmonic in 2010, his performance at the Kennedy Center Honors in 2013, and his performance at the Gilmore Keyboard Festival in 2016. He has also released several recordings, including a critically acclaimed album of works by Franz Schubert. Throughout his career, John has received numerous awards and honors, including the Avery Fisher Career Grant, the Gilmore Young Artist Award, and the Arthur Rubinstein Prize. He has also been praised for his musicality, technical skill, and ability to connect with audiences.
