Founded in 1976 by Dr. Arthur Chodoroff, the ensemble has become one of the most respected wind symphonies in the United States. The ensemble is comprised of approximately 50 talented musicians, including undergraduate and graduate students from the Boyer College of Music and Dance at Temple University. The ensemble is led by Dr. Patricia Cornett, who has been the director of the Temple University Wind Symphony since 2013. Dr. Cornett is a highly respected conductor and educator, and has led the ensemble to numerous accolades and awards. Over the years, the Temple University Wind Symphony has performed at some of the most prestigious venues in the world, including Carnegie Hall, the Kennedy Center, and the Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts. The ensemble has also been invited to perform at several international music festivals, including the Midwest Clinic in Chicago and the World Association for Symphonic Bands and Ensembles Conference in Taiwan. One of the highlights of the Temple University Wind Symphony's history was their performance at the 2009 Midwest Clinic, which is considered to be one of the most prestigious wind band conferences in the world. The ensemble was selected to perform as one of only six university wind ensembles from across the United States. Their performance was met with critical acclaim, and was described as "a stunning display of musicianship and artistry." In addition to their performances, the Temple University Wind Symphony has also been recognized for their exceptional recordings.
