Duo Pleyel is a classical music ensemble that was founded in 2008 by two talented musicians, pianist François Dumont and violinist Nicolas Dautricourt. The ensemble is named after the famous French piano manufacturer, Ignaz Pleyel, who was a contemporary of Mozart and Beethoven. François Dumont was born in Lyon, France in 1985 and began playing the piano at the age of six. He studied at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique et de Danse de Paris and won several prestigious awards, including the first prize at the International Long-Thibaud-Crespin Competition in 2007. Nicolas Dautricourt was born in Nancy, France in 1978 and started playing the violin at the age of four. He studied at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique et de Danse de Paris and won several awards, including the first prize at the International Violin Competition of Indianapolis in 2000. The two musicians met while studying at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique et de Danse de Paris and quickly became friends. They discovered that they shared a passion for the music of the classical and romantic eras and decided to form a duo that would focus on performing works from this period. Duo Pleyel made its debut in 2008 at the Festival de La Roque d'Anthéron in France, where they performed works by Beethoven, Brahms, and Schumann. The performance was a great success, and the duo quickly gained a reputation for their virtuosic playing and their ability to bring out the emotional depth of the music they performed. Since their debut, Duo Pleyel has performed at some of the most prestigious concert halls and festivals around the world, including the Théâtre des Champs-Élysées in Paris, the Wigmore Hall in London, the Konzerthaus in Vienna, and the Lincoln Center in New York. They have also performed with some of the world's leading orchestras, including the Orchestre National de France, the Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France, and the London Philharmonic Orchestra. One of the highlights of Duo Pleyel's career was their performance at the 2010 Festival de La Roque d'Anthéron, where they performed the complete cycle of Beethoven's ten sonatas for violin and piano over the course of three concerts. The performance was hailed as a triumph, and the duo received a standing ovation from the audience. Duo Pleyel has also recorded several albums, including a critically acclaimed recording of Beethoven's complete sonatas for violin and piano, which was released in 2012. The album was praised for its technical precision and emotional depth, and it won several awards, including the Diapason d'Or and the Choc de Classica. In addition to their performances and recordings, Duo Pleyel is also committed to promoting classical music to a wider audience. They have given masterclasses and workshops at several universities and conservatories around the world, and they have also worked with young musicians through various outreach programs.
