The Qatar Philharmonic Orchestra is a classical music ensemble based in Doha, Qatar. It was founded in 2007 by the Qatar Foundation for Education, Science and Community Development, with the aim of promoting classical music in the region and providing a platform for local and international musicians to perform together. The orchestra is made up of around 100 musicians from over 30 countries, including Qatar, Europe, Asia, and the Americas. The members are selected through a rigorous audition process and are among the most talented and experienced musicians in the world. The Qatar Philharmonic Orchestra has performed in some of the most prestigious concert halls and festivals around the world, including the Royal Albert Hall in London, the Berlin Philharmonic, the Salzburg Festival, and the Carnegie Hall in New York. The orchestra has also collaborated with some of the most renowned conductors and soloists, such as Lorin Maazel, Zubin Mehta, Plácido Domingo, and Yo-Yo Ma. One of the highlights of the Qatar Philharmonic Orchestra's performances was its debut concert in 2008, which was conducted by the renowned conductor Lorin Maazel. The concert featured works by Beethoven, Tchaikovsky, and Rimsky-Korsakov, and was attended by over 4,000 people. In 2011, the orchestra performed at the Royal Albert Hall in London as part of the BBC Proms, one of the world's largest classical music festivals. The concert was conducted by the orchestra's music director, Han-Na Chang, and featured works by Wagner, Rachmaninoff, and Ravel. The Qatar Philharmonic Orchestra has also been recognized for its excellence in music. In 2014, the orchestra won the prestigious International Classical Music Award for its recording of the complete symphonies of Sergei Prokofiev. The recording was conducted by the orchestra's former music director, Dmitrij Kitajenko, and was praised for its technical precision and emotional depth.
