Christian Muthspiel was born on August 14, 1962, in Austria. He grew up in a family of musicians, with his father being a jazz trombonist and his mother a classical pianist. Muthspiel started playing the piano at a young age and later learned to play the trumpet and flugelhorn. Muthspiel studied at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Graz, Austria, where he received a degree in jazz trumpet. He then went on to study composition with Friedrich Cerha at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna. Muthspiel's compositions are influenced by both classical and jazz music. He has written works for various ensembles, including chamber music, orchestral works, and jazz compositions.
