His parents were both musicians, and they encouraged him to pursue music from a young age. Ravina showed a natural talent for music, and he began playing the piano at the age of five. Ravina's parents recognized his talent and enrolled him in the National Conservatory of Music in Buenos Aires. He studied under some of the most prominent music teachers in the country, including Alberto Williams and Juan José Castro. Ravina's dedication and hard work paid off, and he graduated with honors from the conservatory. After completing his studies, Ravina began performing in various concerts and recitals in Argentina. He quickly gained a reputation as a talented pianist, and his performances were well-received by audiences and critics alike. In 1949, Ravina won the prestigious National Piano Competition in Argentina, which further cemented his position as a rising star in the world of classical music. In 1950, Ravina moved to Europe to further his musical education. He studied under the renowned pianist and composer, Alfred Cortot, at the École Normale de Musique de Paris. Ravina's time in Paris was a turning point in his career, as he was exposed to a wider range of musical styles and techniques. He also had the opportunity to perform in some of the most prestigious concert halls in Europe, including the Salle Pleyel and the Théâtre des Champs-Élysées. Ravina's talent and hard work paid off, and he began receiving invitations to perform in concerts and recitals all over the world. He performed in some of the most prestigious concert halls in Europe, Asia, and the Americas, including Carnegie Hall in New York, the Royal Albert Hall in London, and the Teatro Colón in Buenos Aires. He was particularly known for his interpretations of the works of Chopin, Beethoven, and Liszt, and his recordings of these composers' works are still considered some of the best in the world. In 1960, he was awarded the Grand Prix du Disque for his recording of Chopin's complete Nocturnes. In 1975, he was awarded the Order of Merit by the Argentine government for his contributions to the country's cultural heritage. In 1985, he was awarded the Medal of Honor by the French government for his contributions to the arts. Despite his success, Ravina remained humble and dedicated to his craft. He continued to perform and record well into his seventies, and he was always looking for ways to improve his playing and expand his repertoire. He was also a dedicated teacher, and he taught at the National Conservatory of Music in Buenos Aires for many years. Oscar Ravina passed away on 15th August 2000, at the age of 75.
